A Note for Parents and Guardians
SIGNUM's minimum age is 13, specifically to make it usable by junior varsity and varsity high school athletes. If your teen is using SIGNUM - on their own, through a school or club athletic program, or because their coach recommended it - this page explains what the app actually does, what it collects, and how you can stay involved.
This notice supplements, not replaces, the full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. If anything here and those documents ever seem to conflict, the full Privacy Policy and Terms govern.
What SIGNUM is
SIGNUM is a training journal and AI coaching app. An athlete logs workouts by voice, text, or photo, and can ask "Vox," SIGNUM's AI coach, questions about their own training history - their progress on a lift, how their training load is trending, or where they might be overdoing it. If your teen is using SIGNUM through a team or program, their coach may also see a roster-level view of their training (see "What a coach can see," below).
Who can create an account, and what we ask at sign-up
Anyone 13 or older can create a SIGNUM account. At sign-up, we ask for a date of birth, and a real, automated check rejects any account that would make the person under 13 - this isn't just an honor-system checkbox.
If your teen is between 13 and 17, SIGNUM's Terms of Service require that a parent, legal guardian, or their coach/athletic program (acting with your knowledge) has given permission for them to use the app and to agree to the Terms on their behalf. We don't currently have a technical way to verify this beyond the sign-up checkbox itself. If you didn't know your teen had signed up and have concerns, contact us below and we'll work with you directly.
What we actually collect from your teen
- Account basics: email address and name.
- Training profile: date of birth, height, weight, sex/gender (optional), training goals, experience level, equipment access, and - if they choose to enter it - injury history, known personal-record lifts, and current training phase. Every field beyond date of birth is optional and can be left blank or cleared later.
- Workout logs: whatever they log - exercises, sets, reps, weight, how hard it felt, and (optionally) where something hurt.
- Voice: if they use voice journaling, what they say is converted to text by an AI service in real time. The audio itself is never saved - only the resulting text.
- Coach notes, if they're linked to a coach: notes their coach writes about their training, some visible to the athlete, some kept coach-only.
We do not collect location data, browsing history, or contacts, and there's no in-app messaging between users - the only "chat" in the app is with the AI coach, not with other people.
How that data is used, and what we don't do with it
We do not sell your teen's information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising - for any user, at any age. There's no advertising in SIGNUM at all. Some states have specific rules restricting targeted advertising to known minors; because we don't do targeted advertising to anyone, this is naturally already how we operate.
Some of what your teen enters is sent to third-party AI services (Anthropic's Claude, and Amazon's Nova Sonic and Nova Pro) to generate coaching responses and extract structured data from what they logged. See the full Privacy Policy for the complete list.
SIGNUM is not a substitute for a coach, trainer, physician, or physical therapist, and nothing in the app - including AI-generated advice - is medical guidance. See our Medical Disclaimer for the full statement.
What a coach can see
If your teen links to a coach (one-on-one) or their team joins a gym/program on SIGNUM:
- A one-on-one coach (approved by your teen, revocable at any time) sees their full workout history and any notes the coach marks "Shared." Notes marked "Private" are visible only to the coach who wrote them.
- A gym or program's coaching staff see a narrower, aggregated view - general indicators like injury-risk level and training trend - not raw workout logs, individual notes, or injury history, unless that specific coach is also your teen's approved one-on-one coach.
Billing
We recommend that a parent, guardian, or the athletic program - not the teen themselves - handle any paid subscription. In most states, a minor can legally void a contract they entered into on their own. If your teen's team or program uses SIGNUM's Team or Enterprise plan, the coach or program is the one subscribing and paying. As of this writing, the app does not technically prevent a 13-17-year-old from subscribing directly on the individual Solo plan with their own payment method - if this happens, contact us and we'll help sort out billing directly.
Your rights as a parent or guardian
You can contact us at support@torquetta.com at any time to:
- Ask what information we have on file for your teen.
- Request that we correct or delete any of it.
- Request that we delete their account entirely.
- Ask questions about anything in this notice, the Privacy Policy, or the Terms of Service.
If we ever learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it.
